How to ripen fruit.

If the fruit you have is not ripe yet, you can hasten the ripening process by just placing the fruit in a paper bag and leaving it at room temperature for a few days. You can speed up the ripening by placing an apple or a banana in the bag along with your fruit. Just be sure you place this bag with the fruit out of direct sunlight and in a dry place. Be sure to check your fruit daily so it does not become over-ripe.

Best recipe of the month contest.

Do you have a great recipe (using fruit) that your friends "Ooh" and "Ahh" over? Well, this is your chance to see how it would do in a contest!! Just send us your favorite recipe by the 10th of the month and our fruit-loving judges will pick their favorite recipe by the end of that month. Each month the winner will receive a free single layer tray of fruit. The fruit prize may vary each month depending on what is in season. But you can be assured that the fruit we send the winner will be tasty!!

Just be sure to e-mail your recipe to: donnaf@calharvest.comby the10th of any month. Then watch Cal Harvest updates for the winner announcement at the end of the month. We will publish the winning recipe right here under this "Best Recipe of the Month Contest' headline. Each month we will send a free one layer box of fresh fruit to that month's winner. So please be sure to include your name and e-mail address along with your best recipe and e-mail it by the 10th of any month.

RECIPE CONTEST WINNER FOR AUGUST

Carol Powell is our recipe contest winner for the month of August. We are sending Carol a tray of fabulous and fuzzy kiwifruit for her winning entry. Her recipe is called:

TEXAS FRUIT DELIGHT

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

1/2 cup sugar, divided

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted

1 package (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened

2 Tblspns milk

1 tub (8 oz.) Cool Whip Whipped Topping, thawed

2 pints fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

3 1/2 cups 2% cold milk

2 packages (4 serving size each) Jell-o Brand Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling

Mix crumbs, 1/4 cup of the sugar and butter in 13X9-inch pan. Press firmly onto bottom of pan. Refrigerate 15 minutes.

Beat cream cheese, remaining 1/4 cup sugar and 2 Tblspns milk in large bowl with wire whisk until smooth. Gently stir in 1/2 of the whipped topping. Spread over crust. Top with strawberry halves.

Pour 3 1/2 cups cold milk into large bowl. Add pudding mixes. Beat with wire whisk 2 minutes. Pour over strawberries.

Refrigerate 4 hours or until set. Just before serving, spread remaining whipped topping over pudding. Store leftover dessert in refrigerator.
